Daniel Day-Lewis won virtually every award for best actor — including his third Oscar — for his remarkable portrayal of the title president in director Steven Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner’s superb 2012 drama. The focus is on the end of Abraham Lincoln’s tenure as chief executive, with his efforts to end the Civil War having a very personal tinge. Sally Field is superb as wife Mary in a cast that also includes Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
