Great Performances at the Met

PBS | 9:00 pm

Adapted from the same Winston Graham literary thriller that Alfred Hitchcock turned into a hit movie, "Marnie," a new opera from composer Nico Muhly, features a tour de force performance in the title role from soprano Isabel Leonard as the alluring beauty whose chilly charms conceal a deeply damaged psyche. Muhly’s score drew a mixed critical reaction when the opera premiered at the Met last fall, but the electrifying staging by Michael Mayer proved a real audience-pleaser. Conductor Robert Spano makes his house debut.
