Celebrated photographer RaMell Ross makes his directorial debut with the new episode "Hale County This Morning, This Evening," a haunting look at two young African-American men living in the "Black Belt" of rural Alabama. Back in the 1930s, Hale County was where photographer Walker Evans and writer James Agee captured the lives of struggling white sharecroppers. Nowadays, the poverty lingers, but the local demographics have shifted, with the country now predominantly home to people of color.
