The Hound of the Baskervilles

Director Terence Fisher's 1959 Hammer Films adaptation of one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most beloved Sherlock Holmes mysteries was the first color version of this oft-told tale, but it also benefited from the casting of Peter Cushing as the brilliant sleuth. A Holmes enthusiast himself, the actor studied Doyle's original novel closely and tried to fashion his Holmes on the literary original. Cushing's frequent Hammer co-star Christopher Lee plays Sir Henry Baskerville, a client who fears he is under an ancestral curse; Andre Morell portrays Doctor Watson.
