Great Performances

The great British actor Toby Jones ("Wayward Pines") gives a heartbreakingly good performance in the title role of a sad-sack estate manager in early 20th-century Russia in Irish playwright Conor McPherson's ("The Seafarer") new translation of Anton Chekhov's dramatic masterpiece "Uncle Vanya." Filmed without an audience in London's Harold Pinter Theater after the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the city's West End in 2020, director Ian Rickson's acclaimed revival includes a superb cast that also includes Richard Armitage ("The Hobbit" movie trilogy), Roger Allam, Anna Calder-Marshall, Rosalind Eleazar and Peter Wight.
