Light in the Piazza

TCM | 8:00 pm

Adapted from a novel by Elizabeth Spencer, this sensitive 1962 romantic drama follows Meg Johnson (Olivia de Havilland) and her 26-year-old daughter, Clara (Yvette Mimieux), on summer holiday in Italy. The latter, who is radiantly lovely but mentally challenged, captures the heart of a local lad, Fabrizio (George Hamilton), but the over-protective Meg is reluctant to allow her daughter to wed. Rossano Brazzi and Barry Sullivan also star in the film, which airs tonight as part of a memorial tribute to Mimieux, who died earlier this year.
